The Dallas Area Torah Association (DATA) is a non-profit, independent Jewish Learning Center. With its main center west of Preston/Forest in North Dallas, plus satellite centers in Far North Dallas and Plano, an Israeli branch, and college program, DATA offers Jews of all backgrounds and affiliations the opportunity to explore and rediscover their Jewish heritage. Through exciting classes, special events, and the popular Learners’ Services on Shabbat and holidays, DATA offers you a variety of free or low-cost ways to learn and enjoy the company of folks who are looking for the same thing.

Attend a DATA program, service, or class and you are likely to find Jewish adults ranging in age from the late teens and 20s to 60+ and from every background –from Reform to Orthodox to unaffiliated to everything in between. They are drawn to DATA not only by the content but by the engaging, thought-provoking, yet warm and inviting atmosphere. DATA is more than a learning resource. It also is a community of Jews who love being Jewish and who welcome all who share that passion. Any Jew who wants to spend a Shabbat or holiday in the company of other Jews can contact a DATA rabbi and be assured of finding a place where they will feel welcome.

DATA also is known nationally as the Flagship of the Kollel Movement. Through the Dallas Kollel – a center for the advanced study of The Torah, Talmud and other Jewish texts – DATA trains the next generation of rabbinic teachers and scholars who will serve Jewish communities far and wide. These rabbis and their families will greatly enrich our community for the years that they are with us.

DATA is an Affiliate of Jewish Unity International, a umbrella organization  for Jewish outreach groups throughout North America. The mission of Jewish Unity International is to unite Jews of all backgrounds through the study of Torah. For more information on Jewish Unity International, click here

DATA opened its doors in 1992, after Dallas lay leaders recognized the need for additional scholarly resources. They persuaded Rabbi Yerachmiel Fried, an internationally respected rabbinic scholar and teacher, to leave his beloved Jerusalem and establish a unique learning center in Dallas. Rabbi Fried and his wife Miriam, in turn, recruited three other rabbi couples and voilà, DATA and the Dallas Kollel were born.

After occupying various temporary facilities, DATA established its main offices and learning center at its current site, a renovated 2200-square-foot house at 5840 Forest Lane, just west of Preston Road in North Dallas. The current permanent faculty of 13 rabbis supports attendance of over 800 people a week in various classes and discussion groups, and provides consultation and counseling on all matters relating to the Jewish individual.

To allow for further expansion and growth of DATA programs, plans already are underway to acquire a larger property not far from the Forest Lane location.

In its first 16 years, DATA has contributed significantly to the growth and vitality of the Jewish communities in Dallas-Fort Worth. Some highlights during the decade and a half:

• Offers a year-round program of classes on the Torah and other Jewish texts, which attract more than 5,000 individuals each year

• DATA faculty have hosted over 20,000 guests for Shabbat meals

• Partnered with more than 50 community organizations for various events

• Created its flagship Guita Borenstein Weekend Retreat which attracts 450 people annually

• Holds an annual Women's Conference which features nationally known speakers and multiple tracks ranging from parenting to women's health issues to enhancing marriages.

• Placed graduates of its Advanced Ordination Program (Kollel) into many community leadership positions, both in Dallas and across the United States

• Established long-term, lasting relationships with thousands of Jews and Jewish families.
